Plug

So, usually I don't blog about my cases, but I am making an exception here because the case is going to the Southern District of New York and because it got some press on the excellent White Collar Crime Blog here:

With unemployment high, with people desperate for jobs, we may be seeing more instances of alleged puffing or fraud in the job search process. But one doesn't expect the government to be spending its time prosecuting individuals based upon alleged fraud in the job search.
But Martha Graybow, Reuters,
U.S. Businessman Accused of Fraud in Job Search reports otherwise. And to make matters even worse, the government wanted the job seeker detained. The magistrate judge in Miami responded with a $25,000 bond, which the government then sought to stay. And when that was denied, the government headed to New York to secure a stay. Again a denial for the government.

I know you say it is silly, but it's really not. Just because there are other crimes doesn't make this one OK. Forging documents from US Government officials is no laughing matter. 20 years, we know that won't (and shouldn't) happen, but a good 30 days should get this character in line.

FUCKING wanted the person detained!!! What the FUCK?

If that is the line of thought at the government, Harriet Meyers (for saying she is actually a lawyer), Alberto Gonzales (for stating he is anything other than a facist) and Chief Justice Roberts (for stating to the senate he believes in precident) should all be charged for lying in connection with their job applications.

I don't know why you think detention is so outrageous. If the guy is willing to lie onhis resume there is not telling what he'll do. Lock him up before he strikes again.

"before he strikes again"!!! Ha, just goes to show the mindset you guys have. Come on...are you worried he is going to lie to get into a movie as a senior citizen? Strike! Or, perhaps you are worried that he will say he had a death in the family to obtain cheaper air fare back to New York? Strike! Or, maybe he is going to tell his lover he is going to leave his wife!!! Strike!

Get over yourself. If you really want to better the community and put dangerous people who are capable of "striking again" away, join the State Attorney's Office and prosecute some real criminals.

Spare me your liberal rantings. It always starts with a little lie. The resume lie is the gateway lie to all other lies. We need to chop the head off the lie at the beginning. Lock this guy up and throw away the key.

Who gave Mr. Acosta the address to post here? David, you need to take away his posting privileges.

Typical weak-kneed liberal. You can't address the issue on the merits so you engage in ad hominem attacks and then ask that the voice of reason be censored.
Don't think much of the 1st Amendment, do you?

Naw Ya'll, I prefer the 2nd Amendment...that's ones bettuh. Ya know, I tink eef those guys way back when this earth was blessed had left that damn 1st amendment off the book, den dis place right cheer would bee much bettuh off.
