RIP Magistrate Judge Barry L. Garber
A good man, he will be missed.
Garber was a no-nonsense judge on the bench. Off the bench, he was a tall teddy bear. He was appointed back in 1991, and died last night at 89. RIP.
UPDATE -- services will be held on January 15 at 10:30am at Riverside Mount Nebo Kendall (5900 SW 77th Avenue).

Gosh, what a nice man and good judge. So sad to read this.
Good memories of Judge Garber, before whom I had my first federal evidentiary hearing in private practice and before whom I appeared many times as a federal prosecutor. Always a model for his professional demeanor and command of the courtroom -- something I try to emulate as a judge. I once went to his home with an agent on the weekend to have a warrant or criminal complaint signed. He opened the door, looked at us, both in jeans and polo shirts, and asked, "Is the AUSA coming?" I felt like, being old-school, he was expecting me to be wearing a tie. It was a good lesson.

A good and decent man. Well respected. Served this community with honor and distinction
One of our best Mags in federal court. You always got a fair chance before Barry. Before he took the bench he was partners with Nick Biocontti. Between Barry, Judge Hoevler, Judge Payne, Judge Davis, the federal bench was all over probably 6' 7" or more. Could have been a great basketball team. I would see him often at the Bagel Emporium, and even recently. I did not know he was ill. He will be missed.
Trialmaster, you forgot Judge Ryskamp, who actually played basketball for UM while he was a law student.
Your right. I knew I was missing the 5th. Thanks for the correction.
