Hammer Time

A number of sources inside the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida tell me that the entire office was summoned yesterday at 4:00 p.m.

Mandatory attendance.

No agenda disclosed.

At the meeting, the U.S. Attorney reportedly said that defense counsel* in a recent trial unearthed old tweets by Will Rosenzwieg criticizing Donald Trump. He then said that the defense "forced" the government's hand in firing Rosenzweig. Losing the trial after being "forced" to fire a prosecutor was not an option.

So the Office assembled its “dream team” of prosecutors—David Turken, Roger Cruz, and Rob Moore—to try the case.

In front of the entire office, the trio was presented with the first-ever “Golden Hammer” awards. Actual, oversized, shiny golden hammers. ...

 * Defense counsel vehemently denies it, says it's completely untrue, and it didn't come from them.

Amateur insecure idiots occupying a dangerous position with the ability to hurt innocent people and damage the justice system.

Rump, that describes the entire Trump administration. And that's putting it nicely.

How embarrassing for the normal, career employees who just want to serve the country with dignity.

They picked the wrong job if that's what they want, particularly under this president who the experienced ones also chose to serve under previously. But yes reviewing documents to delete the presidents name from a child sex case he clearly is culpable in is probably not how they dreamed of spending their day.

Hopefully they smelted/pawned that thing, but knowing this administration, it's probably made of plastic. So tacky.

I'd be embarrassed to have stuck around for this administration. Respect to the ones who resigned. There is no more dignity in their work. They are the arm of a corrupt and petulant man who will use them against anyone who opposes him.

Nowhere to go, or closeted mediocre sycophants trying to Cozy up and read truth social in the closet.

Nice to see that turken had some quality help he's had a rough go in the past with his co-counsel.

Bunch of crybabies. Schadenfreude time. Nice to see the tables turned.

Does the US Attorney know that Roger Cruz is viewed as the most unethical prosecutor over there by the judges and defense bar?

Respect for the ones who resigned. Yes. That's one way to stick to one's ethical and moral principles. But it's not the only way. Many AUSAs stay because they believe they can do more good be remaining on the "inside" than if they were to resign in protest. I think there's tremendous merit to that position, and it deserves respect too. Don't lump all the "stayers" into the same bucket. Many are actually striving to prevent the slide into authoritarianism.

Everyone knows that Cruz is the absolute worst and cannot be trusted. The fact that he tells people that he used to be a defense lawyer is nauseating.

My experience with Roger has been the opposite. I have always found him to be straightforward, honest, ethical, and a pleasure to deal with.

Oh, the good days of defendant rights violations and winning at any cost.
Nobody actually misses the corrupt Silverstein era, right?

A sitting member of congress will stand trial for $5 Million fraud before Judge Gayles, what are the arrangements for extra press?

How very strange for ASA Marshall to post this. Didn't he also defend Elijah Levitt when that guy committed misconduct against his own clients.
