I'm not sure what to make of this, so I'll leave it up to you all. But a Broward state judge has gone law-viral for campaigning on a fake recording and a self-published book. From Law.com:
A book about alleged salacious goings-on in the Orange and Osceola circuit courts by a former employee found its way into a Broward judge's 2024 election campaign.
Now the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission has filed a Notice of Formal Charges against Broward County Judge Lauren Nicole Peffer, accusing her of quoting a book she admitted never having read and not exercising "due diligence to determine the reasonableness of the author's claims."
The book's author is a former Ninth Judicial Circuit employee whose writings she allegedly used to "help her campaign," according to the JQC.
Friday, the judge took responsibility.
"The JQC has found probable cause that during my campaign to seek my current judicial position, my reference to content created by a third party—to whom I have absolutely no ties—was a violation of the Judicial Canons which require a judge to act in a manner that instills public confidence. My sole intent was to provide an example of the scrutiny a judge faces and why the judiciary must hold itself to the highest moral standard. While unintentional, I take responsibility for my actions and apologize for the unfortunate effects the reference may have caused my fellow judiciary members," she wrote in an email. "I am dedicated to serving the people of Broward County, and will continue to uphold the highest level of judicial integrity."
The JQC’s Investigative Panel, following a March 28 meeting, found probable cause for formal proceedings pertaining to Peffer’s use of the self-published e-book, The Ninth Circus Court of Florida, My 30-Year Job from Hell!, by "terminated" technology officer and self-proclaimed whistleblower, Brett Arquette of Orlando.
State court has all the fun...

It’s Broward. Always the same. Just different players.
DSM-6 needs to include "Wacky Whistleblower," as an illness. Every county has at least three of them. It is obviously a mental disability.
SCOTUS just permitted Trump to strip TPS from Venezuelans. Deporting Cubans. Seems strange Miami-Dade supported him so strongly.
Ever since I've been practicing law in S. Fla. (almost 26 years now) the Broward state judiciary has been mired in some sort of scandal. Sometimes there's a lull of a couple years but it inevitably happens again, and some jurist has to resign in disgrace (or more recently gets removed). It always surprised me because Broward is a relatively small legal community (compared to Dade) but they seem to have a really high number of naughty judges. I remember just from when I was young the baseball ticket scandal, the drunk/naked judge at the judicial conference, the racist remark judge(s), just to name a few. I always wondered if there's a high degree of narcissistic personality styles associated with people who run for judge, and the constant ass-kissing they receive all day/every day creates a toxic mix that causes malignant black robe fever.
What's going on in Broward?
Four judges in front of the JQC at the same time.
Cesspool in the full bloom of its stench.
Why would Judge Peffer quote from a self-published e-book she never read that attacks the judiciary with nonsense claims she presented to the South Florida Sun editorial board?
There are legitimate examples judicial/prosecutorial misconduct to raise. This nonsense was easily disproved. Almost seems fabricated now that she fell on her sword.
In my circuit serious judicial/prosecutorial misconduct is reported and publicly dismissed. I believe the complaints are collected and used as blackmail by the prosecution to get certain results in criminal cases, or certain outcomes in civil cases. If there are four judges in front of the JCQ at the same time in Broward as alleged @9:35, it may mean the judges are not susceptible blackmail. Depends on the accusations. If its petty stuff, they may be somewhat honest and got tripped up for not playing the game.
So what have you learned as a legal intern?

Alleged?
Go look at the current JQC docket.

It's public record.
Of the 7 judges currently before the JQC, 4 are from Broward.
