New magistrate judge named

Back in October, the blog broke the news that the judges had voted Randy Katz as our newest magistrate judge.  However, Randy has withdrawn his name from consideration.  My understanding is that the newest nominee is Marty Fulgiera Elfenbein, a current AUSA.

Marty was an associate at Kirk Caldwell and clerked for Judge Bloom.

Congratulations!

Marty Elfenbein is an excellent choice. I have seen her grow professionally from a summer associate to a partner at Rumberger/Kirk. Her work product and advocacy skills are used at our firm as an example when mentoring our young lawyers. She is a passionate, experienced and accomplished trial lawyer involving complicated issues in Federal Court cases. Her experience in private practice, clerking for Judge Bloom and as an AUSA makes her highly qualified to be a Federal Court Magistrate. She is smart, fair, listens and will be an asset to the bench and our profession for many years.

Is it just me, or was this magistrate-judge selection process done largely in secret this time around? In the past, DOM would announce the committee, and then the applicants, and then the finalists. This time, none of that.

It’s just you.
