RIP Richard Sharpstein

Jeez, what an awful week.

We lose another giant today, Richard Sharpstein, who was only 63.

One of the most fun people I have ever known.

Sharpie and my Dad are up there exchanging jokes right now and telling war stories.  I smile thinking about the two of them.

Damn.

A tough week in a difficult month. David, that you can blog in a time like this is a testament to you. Hang in there.

I saw Richard give a closing representing a lawyer who was charged with theft when he went to Bloomingdales and tried to return a wedding gift at the bridal registry. His client was a male and had just gotten confused over the process. And as Richard painted this picture of a poor, hapless man, in the bridal area of Bloomies, he paused, looked at the jury with half a smile and said "He was truly a stranger in a strange land!"

NG of course.

Just shocking. Saw him recently and he seemed healthy and full of his usual wit; life is fleeting.

He was a walking sound bite!

Richard said he wanted to comment in the newspaper about his own death and how it happened. Just kidding. I thought I'd give him something to laugh about as he looks down at us from a better place. What a great guy!!!

I've known Sharpie for 50 years, from the old WEHC days (had to go there to know it). A wonderful, fun, funny, interesting guy. His nickname was apt, he was a Sharpie. He will be missed by many. May he rest in peace.

Dickie, a friend from law school. I agree, always fun and always sweet. Loved him. :-(

As an agent, I had an opportunity to meet Richard during a 5 week trial. He was without a doubt the best criminal defense attorney I have ever encountered. Everyday during the afternoon recess, Richard drank Cuban coffee with all the agents. He never treated us as the enemy but rather professional law enforcement officers. Today, we all lost a great practitioner in the criminal justice system in the SDFL. May he RIP!

JAY WEAVER IS A DISGUSTING AND VINDICTIVE PERSON.

From Julie Kay's article in the DBR:

"We are not investigating for suicide," said Miami Beach police spokesman Bobby Hernandez. "This is a death investigation. We are waiting for toxicology to come back, talking to family members, before drawing any conclusions."

Besides, that speculation is not news.

I think Mr. Calli owes Jay Weaver an apology. Looks like Mr. Weaver had the correct facts all along. Can't believe you would stoop so low as to publish such ridiculous comments from an attorney whose ego has been damaged because of Mr. Weaver's honest reporting about him and his clients. You should know better.

828 am missed the mark.

Calli ( if that was Calli which it probably was because he seems to put his name If he comments) I think was saying what many of us think : Jay weavers rush to splash sordid allegations within hour before confirmation in the me of a "story" and feeding his banal needs was despicable jay weaver is a cowardly , yellow journalism , dishonest muckraking tabloid gossip monger .

What's jays Next "story?" That Richard was naked when he passed? What was in the note ? In the divorce papers ? That is not news . That is prurient trash. The comments here and on rumpole affirm all this . Weaver has no place among our bar. He is loathsome.

Ha ha ha . That a good one . Ill bet you .19 weaver is done in this town. Although I will say this : Calli has exposed weaver as dishonest per the last 2 years . Just like weaver smeared Richard and his clients weaver will try to do the same thing to him . My money's on Calli . Besides - who would you at her stand with ; Richard Sharpstein or jay. Weaver ? Enough said.

If the last two posts were written by attorneys then the legal profession in this town is in a sorry state. Can anyone actually decipher what is being said? They are either high on crack or just plain stupid. we know, at least, that they are Calli apologists.
