Gerald Tjoflat to take senior status

Big news out of the 11th Circuit today, as Judge Tjoflat is taking senior status upon the confirmation of his successor.  Tjoflat turns 90 in December and was a member of the 5th Circuit before the court split.  He is the longest serving judge in active service.

This old coot should have stepped down years ago. He has never been fair to the defense and if a panel ruled for a defendant, he would go en banc to reverse it.

His questioning style at oral argument was like a pirate. "Arrrrrrrrrrrr!"

You know nothing. And you have no respect.
Frm CJ Tjoflat was as tough on prosecutors as any judge on the court. He was no liberal, but he was willing to do the right thing as he saw it even if it meant fighting the conservative block on the court. I hope I am as sharp in my 60's as he is at 90. He could have taken it easy as a senior judge or taken a cushy high paying job with a firm (not naming names). But he took a full load and worked hard for a lot longer than most people would have.
Thank you for your service, hard work and dedication.

His conduct with regard to Alcee was a disgrace.

Indentured servitude of defense lawyers! Lawyers of the Eleventh Unite! You have nothing to loose but your fees. If you have to ask, you will never know.

  6. Anyone remember the contretemps with Tjoflat and Stan Blake when he was heading FACDL and wrote a intended to be humorous but nasty barb about the Judge’s last name? Tjoflat took him to the Bar on that one.

Tjoflat wants Trump to appoint his successor. Disgraceful.
