Apparently the Florida Federal JNC has not been constituted yet, leaving Judge Seitz's opening just sitting there -- with no ability to even apply.
Meantime, Judge William Thomas' nomination to the District bench hasn't moved forward yet.

The ship has sailed for Thornton with the delay you observe . It's sad - he thinks he still has a shot and is trying to avoid tough rulings or cases . He torpedoed his last chance by doing so because he is not judging. He is politicking .
ReplyDeleteI think that's unfair to Thornton -- he's been a great judge, has done fantastic work in the complex division, and yes -- he would make a phenomenal federal judge.
ReplyDeleteThornton is one of the best on the State bench in MDC (despite being a Golden Domer).
ReplyDeleteThornton would have gotten the slot Thomas had but for some reason or opposition that likely makes his chances quite dim at this point. Too many state judges anyway become DJs so that is probably a good thing. But wouldn't Thornton been better than Thomas on the merits?
ReplyDeleteTiming is everything. MANY things have to fall into place. So I think 12;45 pm is correct. Dim chance remaining, regardless of his qualifications.
ReplyDeleteJudge Thornton is an excellent judge, but Judge Thomas is every bit as good. In addition, he works very hard, cuts no corners, and is a scholar as well. We need to increase the number of diverse judges that we have, and Judge Thomas's appointment gives us the ability to do so while maintaining the highest qualities of selection and performance. I think he will do a great job. He will be missed in the state system, and my best is that a few more district vacancies, at least two, may occur.
ReplyDeleteAs a "Real" trial lawyer, the most brilliant choice for the next District Court Judge is Mike Hanzman. Not only is he the most intelligent and accomplished Circuit Court Judge, his integrity, temperament and legal acumen are without equal. He has written incredible opinions while sitting as an Associate Judge on the 4th DCA. Next time you see a Federal Judge at a social gathering, ask them "Was Mike Hanzman the very best trial lawyer that you have ever experienced?" .... I can assure you that Judges Moreno, Ungaro, Marcus, etc. will all say "Absolutely"!
