This is not a book you’re reading.

“I thought you didn’t read the comments.”
“I don’t. But I look at whether there are comments.”
“You said they were unaccountable and irrelevant.”
“They are.”
“So what’s the problem?”

man bored in cubicle.jpgThat was D.O.M. losing patience with me again. He’s not as bothered by the drop in audience participation as I am. I’m starting to feel like those old people who slowly read the news on NPR, oblivious that they’re producing nothing but a white noise machine.

“Isn’t this a participatory medium? Isn’t the whole point that it’s democratic and open so that everyone can throw his two cents in?”
“So that you can not read what they write?”
“Why are we going in circles with this? What I’m saying is that no one is throwing any cents in. Why does it matter whether I read them?”
“Look, I have work to do. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Whatever, man.”

  1. Richard,

Not to suck up or tick off D.O.M., but I think your posts are irreverent, insightful, and right on the mark. This isn't to say that D.O.M.'s aren't, they are just more "newsy" in nature, while yours are a bit more "literary." Sort of the difference between Harvard and Yale. Go figure.

The drop is because of two things

    1) Some comments are not posted for whatever reason, and

    2) It takes hours for comments to get up.

That makes any discussion impossible. I understand there may be a desire not to offend District judges, but they are big folks, they can take it.

It's a holiday (Easter) week. No one is commenting except on what the Easter Bunny is bringing. Nothing to do with the Blog. It's great.

  6. I have been boycotting comments ever since I posted a lengthy and humorous comment regarding the late great Judge Paine, only to receive no feedback. So there.

The Supreme Court has reversed itself based upon my two cents.

Remember the deputy who took papers out of the defense attorney's file, while she was at the podium with her client? Apparently, he chose to go to jail, instead of apologize:

But that sounds like the tip of the iceberg in Maricopa County...
