From Reuters:
The U.S. Senate on Thursday confirmed President Joe Biden's nominee to the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, overcoming rare Democratic opposition from Senator Joe Manchin.
Nancy Abudu, a lawyer for the nonprofit Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) legal advocacy group, was confirmed on a 49-47 vote. She will be the first Black woman to serve on the Atlanta-based 11th Circuit.
Abudu's nomination drew strong Republican opposition, and she faced a new obstacle on Wednesday night when Manchin, a moderate Democrat from West Virginia, broke ranks to oppose advancing her nomination.

Nice.
ReplyDeleteManchin typically will coordinate his opposition on issues or appointments with party leaders so that his vote doesn’t upend party interests. It’s the only way he can survive as a Democrat in West Virginia. Glad they made it happen.
ReplyDeleteGood for the Eleventh Circuit. Regardless of whether one will agree with Judge Abudu on any particular appeal, it is a good thing (a) to have additional judges (to get more work done) and (b) to have different points of view, to challenge the majority, and to combat group-think.
ReplyDeleteSeparately: What is up with Judge Wilson? Like, the time is now, you know?
What's up with Judge Wilson? He's not even 70. He's not gonna retire or take senior status just so Biden can replace him with an activist, sorry.
ReplyDeleteThis message is for David Markus. Congratulations on your ascendency to the throne of probably the best criminal defense attorney in Florida, replacing Roy Black. A couple of suggestions and warnings-this post is intended to be confidential for you and not posted.
ReplyDelete1. the best personal injury attorney in florida, ervin gonzalez, committed suicide. he had listed on his bio every conceivable organization one could join or be honored by. you have a lot of your own. do you have a private life? if not get one and stop with all the self aggrandizing behavior. you are already known. 2. I was once near the top of the heap like you-then the pressure to always impress, perform, win is on you and can be a heavy burden. watch your alcohol, drug, and sex consumption. when you are the best the women will want you. 3. a topic for your blog -be my guest and take the credit. I saw roy black in court when at age 43 he had the reputation as the best-he did not disappoint. the lozano case was the type of victory where he got his legendary reputation. lozano can be used to attack the goings on in atlanta by fani willis in her tainting of the grand jurors who will indict trump in august by her may 18 letter to a judge and letters to law enforcement about impending doom when they indict. if they indict == riots, if no then the wrath of family, friends, leo, the da. no win situation. if trump, mtg the crazy white supremicist congresswoman and her north georgia constituents that dangerous and likely to riot. and then there is the black white element, having to have her black employees work remote and request a separate branch of government cease jury trials for 3 weeks in august so her black employees can be home safe from the crazy white trump supporters who will riot. you are smart enough to take this and run with it. good luck. p.s. as in the movie patton all glory is fleeting . try to avoid the attention and a scholarship to florida lawyers assistance and not end up like gonzalez.
So some of my crazies have found you. Finally.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised it took so long for a response. DM must have been busy on something else before he could get through to rumpole that someone other than him can spot legal issues. the suicide remark-check dm's resume posted on his blog and cross check it with gonzalez's before you dismiss it has crazy. heading for trouble, ego is too big.
