I voted clerk but it is possible a Justice was wavering and it could have been on the Alito side to lock everyone down. Remember Bowers V Hardwick which was 5-4. A justice admitting changing his vote at the last minute even was the opinion was being drafted. But who knows.
Alito’s camp did. Just to make sure he wouldn’t lose any of his majority votes.
