President Trump nominates Judge Moore to chair the U.S. Sentencing Commission.

Here’s the link to the announcement:

Today, President Donald J. Trump announced his intent to nominate the following individuals to key positions in his Administration: Judge K. Michael Moore, of Florida, as Chairman of the United States Sentencing Commission. Judge Michael Moore serves as the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, a post which he has held since 2014. Judge Moore was appointed to the Southern District of Florida by President George H. W. Bush in 1992. Before his appointment to the Federal bench, Judge Moore served as the Director of the United States Marshals Service and as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida. Judge Moore also spent over a decade of service as an Assistant United States Attorney.

Just because he follows them doesn't mean he doesn't think they should be brought down a bit!

Looking for the guideline provision that every motion for departure and variance can be denied because you have been arrested for other offenses.

Shouldn't be lost on anyone that this slate was announced the same day DJT announced that he has a goal of reducing the number of minorities who live in the suburbs.

David, the last comment accusing moore of being part of trumps racist agenda, has no place on the blog and is unfair.

I do not think the point of that post was that Judge Moore is personally associated with "Trump's racist agenda." The slate of picks is troublesome for a number of reasons that are a piece of Trump's agenda. The press release says that these picks are being nominated to "key positions in his administration." President Trump at least views these potential Commissioners as answering to him. Also, the lack of diversity of these nominees is telling. 4 of the 5 nominees are men. 4 of the 5 nominees are white. These same 4 nominees are all former federal prosecutors.Just as Trump is attempting to perpetuate segregation in "the suburbs" he seems to want to perpetuate long standing deficiencies in the criminal justice system by failing to nominate a diverse group of judges and lawyers. Finally he seems to believe that these nominees are part of his administration and to presumably further his agenda.

Do people willfully misconstrue Trump's words because they're blinded by Trump hatred, or are they stupid enough to believe that's what he really said?

    Dear 9:49,

    This is what he said:

"They're going to destroy suburbia. And just so you understand, 30+% of people living in suburbia are minorities — African American, Asian American, Hispanic American," Trump said during the press conference. "The number's even higher; they say 35, but I like to cut it a little lower."

So by his own words he said he wants to "cut" or reduce the number of minorities living in the suburbs.

That comment is illuminating but still doesn't quiet answer the question. You literally cut off his quote halfway through. His next words were "You know why? That way I can never get myself in too much trouble with the fake news. But 30 percent plus are minorities living in suburbia." It's obvious to any sentient being that he said he was cutting the number lower because he knew the press would jump all over him if he overstated the percentage even slightly. He knew the press would misconstrue his words, and people like you proved him right. So, were you ignorant of the entire quote, or did you willfully choose to selectively and misleadingly quote him?

    DJT tweet

“I am happy to inform all of the people living their Suburban Lifestyle Dream that you will no longer be bothered or financially hurt by having low income housing built in your neighborhood,” wrote Trump on Twitter. “Your housing prices will go up based on the market, and crime will go down. I have rescinded the Obama-Biden AFFH Rule. Enjoy!”

During his remarks in West Texas later on Wednesday, Mr. Trump bragged again that he had ended a government program that tries to reduce segregation in suburban areas.

“People fight all of their lives to get into the suburbs and have a beautiful home,” he said. “There will be no more low-income housing forced into the suburbs.”

“It’s been hell for suburbia,” he added, before telling the audience to “enjoy your life, ladies and gentlemen.”
