Will Alex Acosta be named Attorney General?

Marc Caputo floats the idea here:

WHAT ABOUT ACOSTA? — It’s well-known that President Donald Trump prizes loyalty and loves guys with Harvard degrees. By those standards, Alex Acosta fits the bill for attorney general. Acosta has also already survived Senate confirmation, too, and serves as Trump’s only Hispanic secretary, for labor. A son of Cuban exiles, Acosta has prosecutorial experience, having served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida before becoming dean of Florida International University. One possible blemish on Acosta’s record: His decision to give accused pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein what many saw as a sweetheart deal.

Acosta would be a fantastic choice.

Also listed in the short list is Pam Bondi.

Just heard that some tall, angry white guy in a black robe pushed RBG down and she broke three ribs.

Acosta would be better than the Bork-light hack who is in as acting AG

  4. You forgot about the CLI interning with the Dade SAO in DUI court. He made the short list. He's loyal and he needs a job, so he fits the bill.

Any reports from the Esformes hearing today?

The hearing was crowded, both sides of the aisle.

The defense was well organized and compelling, but..

The Gov't turned a hearing about detailed conclusive findings of misconduct into a pity party by trying to compel the court into not only discounting but "affirmatively rejecting" the Magistrate's R&R just because it wasn't 'fair' to blemish the professional records of the Prosecution team members for their utter disregard of ethics rules or constitutional protections asserted to privileged materials.

You take an Oath as a Prosecutor, and again when you take the stand. How much more due process notice does a lawyer need?

    This has to stop.

Actions have consequences for everyone but prosecutors.

This is interesting. If the Epstein contretemps becomes a stumbling block, call Bill Clinton as a character witness. He palled around with Epstein and can testify they were all adult and consenting concubines and hey good buddy, we are just talking about sex so what's the big deal?

Acosta has the same chance of becoming AG as Mary Barzee becoming a US Representative.

That's a douche comment. Don't be an asshole. At least Barzee tried to stand up and be counted.

Barzee ran a very good race. She was asked to take one for the team when Shalala came into the race and she ended up making it far more competitive than people thought. Many very good politicians lose that first race. As a political sports fan, I would say she needs to run again. She is a natural.

Acosta would be a good choice, but not for the reasons some members of the SDFL defense bar have in mind. I doubt AG Acosta would indulge preferred defense counsels breaking the chain of command like USA Acosta did. I hope he changed his cell phone number.

BTW, since when does the Due Process clause not apply to lawyers? Are you really willing to throw away Constitutional protections just because they apply to prosecutors? I guess in the next defense attorney prosecution, there will be no need for notice of charges and opportunity to be heard. Tell that to Mr. Ben Kuehne.
