Borked
RIP Robert Bork. Here are some of the highlights (lowlights?) from the confirmation hearing:
agreed at the time but the downside of these confirmation battles over ideology now is too great a price. he was obviously qualified then and that should have been enough. now, people like Arthur Miller or Larry Tribe or Jonathan Turley have no chance of ever being appointed from the other point of view. that is a sorry state of affairs.
Saw him speak at UF Law School. VERY full of himself and VERY defensive about his part in the Saturday Night Masacre. He either saw no problem with it at all, or like our fraud clients, he beleieved his own b.s.
They were right to keep him off - but notice they held a vote, and did not say because you don't have 60 votes we won't allow any vote at all.
