It was the catfish with black pepper...

... that made me crash into the ditch on the way to court for a murder trial. I really wasn't drunk. I swear. Sorry Your Honor.

My other weekend reading included:

Poor Bernie.

In other UM news, Roy Firestone inspired the Marlins. (Or maybe it was Jim Leyritz who depressed the Yanks).

Maybe Bernie should get some help from this law student, who won $650K in a poker tourney.

This other lawyer wasn't so lucky.

Nor was Judge Kent, who was impeached.

This defendant didn't need to pay the jury to win, despite the juror's best efforts.

The Supreme Court is wrapping up. Here are the outstanding opinions, courtesy of ScotusBlog.

Okay, I'm out. Happy Father's Day ....

Oh, one last thing -- Thanks to the tipster who pointed out that the JNC updated the list of applicants to include Circuit Judge Peter Adrien for District Court Judge. Did they mistakenly leave him off the original list? Or did his application get in late? Or what happened here? Weird.

  1. You really need me to help with your off hours.

    1) Try reading the Daily racing form. Then go to the track. It's outside. Fresh air. The kiddies can go with daddy to see the ponies.

"Mommy- daddy said bad words when his horse was slow.." etc.

    2) Then scour the internet for information on the upcoming football season and maybe you can last longer in the suicide pool.

    3) While on the internet there are certain other sites with the word "blonde" in them which also provide hours (ok minutes) of interesting relaxation.

The point is to get away from the office on the weekends.

This case received some attention on this blog a few months ago:

FORMER PINE CREST SCHOOL SWIM COACH SENTENCED (to nearly 13 years)ON TRANSPORTATION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

    June 19, 2009

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jeffrey H. Sloman, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Anthony V. Mangione, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of Investigations, Jonathan I. Solomon, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Al Lamberti, Sheriff, Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO), announced today that defendant Roberto M. Caragol, 35, formerly an assistant swim coach at Pine Crest School, in Fort Lauderdale, was sentenced today to 151 months in prison on charges of transporting child pornography. The defendant was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra in West Palm Beach.

This case began when the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), a group of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies aimed at combating child exploitation, received a Cybertip from America Online that Caragol was distributing child pornography on the Internet. Thereafter, deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and ICE agents interviewed Caragol and recovered a computer from his residence. A subsequent forensic examination of the computer by ICE’s Cyber Crime Unit revealed approximately 40 thumbnail images of boys under the age of 18, engaged in sexual activity. In March 2009, Caragol pled guilty to the charges of transporting child pornography.
