Agent Donald Pettit, RIP
More sad news today. Customs Agent Donald Pettit was shot to death in front of his daughter. The cause of the shooting looks like road rage. Herald article here.
Services for Agent Pettit will be held today at the BCC North Campus Omni Auditorium at 12:30. Public viewing is from 11:30 to 12:30. A fund has been set up at Regions Bank for the education expenses of Agent Pettit's two minor children -The Pettit Family Charitable Fund. Contributions can be made at any Regions Bank Branch, or can be mailed in the name of the fund to Broad and Cassel's Fort Lauderdale Office.
Nothing is ever as it seems.one has to consider how much responsibility a Sworn Federal Agent has for the end result of this crime.I have been in a situation myself that could have turned out the same way. The diffence was when I was faced with the confrontation, I decided it was better to apologize and go home than to get shot and end up otherwise. The suspect was most certainly at fault, but with his daughter in the car,and while off duty what level of responsibility does Ofc Petit Share?
My father was partners with Don almost 10 years ago in the military. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during these times ahead. How awful people can be over basically nothing.

I served with Donald during his 2d Infantry days at Camp Casey Korea. I have fond memories of working with Don and other member of the Military Police Investigators section at Camp Casey. My familys prayers are with you. God bless.

I knew Don since 1999. We worked together and played golf together. Don was always happy and had a positive outlook on life. He always had nice things to say about his wife and kids, and often indicated how much he loved them. I knew Don well, and he was very good man. He never lost his temper, even during golf. We were planning a golf game just days before the incident. Don was a great friend to me. God Bless his family. Patrick
That is terrible news. Peace to his family.
